ISSUE 10 May/Jun 2010
Volunteer of the month:
“I have been a volunteer for Young and Free for about 6 months. So far I have really enjoyed the buddying
sessions I’ve had with Heather, and hopefully when I finish university I will be available to buddy up with more members on a regular basis. I really enjoy volunteering, and I think I have made some really good friends at Young and Free. Hopefully in the summer I’ll be helping out with minibus driving to get us to and from different places! I hope to stay with Young and Free for a long time.”
If you would like to enrich your life by enriching that of others then please get in contact.

OUR NEWS
At the end of April, Y&F took part in Bristol University’s 3D week (disability, disadvantage and diversity) which forms part of educational experience of year 2 medical students. Our members were invited to talk to the students about how they would like to be poken to and treated by the doctors of the future. The event proved to be useful and informatiove to the students and our members enjoyed being able to get themselves heard. This is what one Y&F member, Jo Stevens, had to say: “ The Bristol University event was a bit nerve-wracking at first, as I’d never done it before, but it was a great opportunity for disabled young people to share their views with trainee doctors. The students were very enthusiastic and keen to learn about disability and my team was thoroughly grilled to lots of questions! I felt it was very worthwhile as it helped the students’ in their studies and hopefully gave them a first-hand insight into the various types of disability that exist. Altogether an interesting experience!”
